Why Is My Water Pressure Low?

Low water pressure is a bigger issue than you might imagine. It can make it hard to shower, use the water lines, wash your dishes and use certain appliances. If you are dealing with low water pressure, there are a few things that might be causing the issue that you can take a look at to get things back to normal.

Common Causes of Low Water Pressure

One of the most common causes of low water pressure is usage if you are on a municipal or shared water line. Take a large city like Las Vegas, for example. Las Vegas water pressure has the potential to be much lower if there are blockages or other issues that have to do with a large number of people using the water lines. If the water station that is supplying the water has a higher demand than normal, it can make it hard to keep a consistent water pressure for all customers.

Debris and build-up in the lines can make it hard for the water to make it through the system. If you have dirt or debris in the lines it can make it nearly impossible to move the water through the system which can then make it hard for the water pressure to stay up.

Another issue you might be dealing with is corrosion in the lines. Corrosion can build up and can make the lines close up which slows down the water moving through the system. You may also be dealing with issues with the water meter valves. An open valve in the home can cause water pressure to be low as well. If you have a shut-off valve that is not open all the way or that is blocked, it can make the water run slower as well.

What Should I Do?

If you are dealing with issues, like if your shower is barely running, you should take the time to contact your water company first to see if there is an issue at the water supplier. Sometimes they will tell you about a service interruption before it happens so that you can prepare or they can shed some light on the issue.

After that, you can always contact a plumber. They will work to rule out issues at the shower then work through the home to see if there are any other issues that might be present that can be taken care of. Sometimes low water pressure is an indication of other problems. It is always best to take the time to check and see what issues might be present.
